Third Age advocates nationally by demonstrating the positive contribution older people make to local communities. We have over 800 volunteers nationally, and through their voluntary work we positively benefit literally thousands of people of every age - including schoolchildren, non-Irish nationals and older people themselves. Our innovative programmes challenge the negatives stereotypes often associated with ageing and older people, and our members and volunteers are role models for positive ageing.
Senior Help Line advocates for older people by being the voice of callers - bringing to public notice the issues and concerns of older people as raised on the help line. Given that loneliness is an issue underpinning many calls, we seek to raise awareness about the prevalence of loneliness among sections of the older population, and to highlight the need for services which could help alleviate this. These include more community facilities, good local public transport, reaching out to older neighbours, and more family contact between the generations.
Failte Isteach advocates practically for community integration through its very existence. Failte Isteach demonstrating in a practical way the needs of migrants, how a community can respond, and the benefits the project beings to each community.
Supporting the work of Third Age benefits people of all ages throughout Ireland.
