Dos and Don'ts

Seven Do’s:

  1. Remember that costs should not usually exceed 30% of the planned return.
  2. Make a list of your fundraising sources: friends, family, work, local schools, pubs, clubs…
  3. Try to get your event sponsored by a local business, or source free items from colleagues.
  4. Advertise your event as much as possible. Write a press release (ask us for help if needed). We will post it on our web site. Send it to your media contacts, and post it on notice boards in the office, supermarket and other suitable locations.
  5. Maximise your opportunity. If hosting a barbecue, hold a raffle at the same time, for example.
  6. Be passionate about you cause. Be willing to speak to anyone and everyone about Third Age..
  7. Write a blog about your fundraising events for your and our web site.

Seven Don’ts:

  1. Overestimate your fundraising target or the support you’ll receive. .
  2. Rely too much on family and friends.
  3. Underestimate the potential of tried and trusted local events.
  4. Lose sight of your target by getting too caught up in unnecessary expense or planning
  5. Don't skimp on the amount of people you may need to help on the day.
  6. Be afraid to ask people to donate - often all you need to do is to ask.
  7. Forget to have fun!
