Knitting Bus Project Update from St Michael's NS Clifferna

In September 2011, we decided to participate in the ‘Knitting the Generations Together’ Project. We made contact with one of the organisers of our local ‘Clifferna Senior Social Club’, Mrs Molly Rudden, and formulated a plan. It was decided that the project would run for six weeks with the pupils in fifth and sixth classes and that four members of the Senior Social Club would come into the school each Friday afternoon and teach the children to knit.
The project started on Friday October 14th and it has been a huge success. All 16 children have completed a teddy due to the patience and instruction given to them by the four ladies who gave their time so willingly ~ Mrs Mary Higgins, Mrs Rita Reilly, Mrs Molly Rudden & Mrs Margaret Watson. The children enjoyed the six sessions so much and are now very sad that it has come to an end.  I think the ladies enjoyed the time they spent with us also. We do intend to maintain our link with the Clifferna Senior Social Club and hope to make a contribution to their involvement in the Bealtaine Festival in 2012.
This has been one of the most worthwhile activities we have been involved in at St Michael’s NS Clifferna, and I cannot recommend it enough to other schools.  Thanks to Third Age for providing us with such a great opportunity.
