Knitting Project- Drumfad NS

Our 11 senior 3rd to 6th class children did knitting with  helpers for Hallowe'en - we also hope to do some Easter Knitting with helpers after our WSE in the beginning of March. We also hope to crochet "granny" squares to make a baby blanket for an expected baby, thus stretching the generations.

However our involvement with older members in the community has been expanded.  we are also involved with the Pushkin Trust and their theme this year is ROOTS which fits in very nicely with your project - Roots in the community, Roots on our penninsula etc.

Last Friday we had 4 senior citizens in  - the children were divided into groups and each group interviewed their person for 40 mins.  Tomorrow these people return to the school and together we are going to create some drama from their stories over the next few weeks.  Today we had an elderly lady in to tell us about her childhood holidays in Portsalon Hotel.  Another 85 year old gentleman is coming in to tell about his experience at The Hiring Fair and how he faired in his placement.  A 70 year old is coming in in 2 weeks to talk about his childhood experiences in our school and actually the 95 year old we had in last week is our oldest living past pupil and the liveliest of the group that came last Friday!!!!!

Will let you know how we get on!
