Third Age Fáilte Isteach opened a new branch in Portlaoise on Thursday 7th February. The opening of this branch brings to 56 the total number of branches nationwide.

Third Age Fáilte Isteach involves predominantly older people volunteering their time to teach conversational English to migrants who have come to Ireland from all over the world. The student-centered approach adopted by the programme provides basic language support in a practical, welcoming and inclusive manner.
First established in 2006 in Summerhill, Co Meath by Third Age, the project was launched nationally in 2008 and there are currently 550 trained volunteer tutors teaching basic conversational English to over 1600 migrants from 64 different countries at classes held nationwide each week.
The branch in Portlaoise is a joint venture between Portlaoise VEC, Respond Housing Unit, Laoise Partnership and Third Age Fáilte Isteach.
