Development

In September 2008 a Head of National Development was appointed to assist other interested communities, followed over time by two National Development Officers. The first centre outside Summerhill opened in Dunshaughlin in January 2009. Today there are 37 Failte Isteach projects throughout the country. Every week over 450 volunteers teach over 1,000 students from over 50 countries, collectively offering over a thousand hours of tuition each week.

The student-centred approach adopted by the programme provides basic language support. The emphasis is keeping tuition simple, practical and interesting, matching the needs of the individual pupil.

Fáilte Isteach has recently been listed on the EU website for Integration as best practice in its field and as a project that is adaptable to any EU country.
