Sweet treats this Christmas...

Posted on 14th December 2015

Sunday 6 December saw the second Third Age Gingerbread Event take place in the Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge.

The family gingerbread house decorating competition was well supported again this year with an increase in the number of entries.

The standard was of a very high quality and made judging for Ciara Fennessy of Ciara's Kitchen very difficult.

Maria Kelly from Cabinteely who designed the winning house 'Merry Minion' said the event was a 'magical' occasion and that she loves all things gingerbread! She intends purchasing an Airbrush Cake Decorating Kit with her winnings as it has long been on her wish list.

A particular mention must go to all who entered houses and designed them as the amount of work and creative energy required was significant and shouldn't be underestimated.

Many of the houses were decorated by people who were involved last year with a new cohort taking part also. Family and friends came to see the impressive display for an afternoon of fun and games.

Lisa Carlile from The Cake Fairy, Athgarvan created a magnificent evocation of Áras an Uachtaráin from Siúcra sugar cubes with a competition run throughout the afternoon on 98fm Facebook page. The winners had to guess how many sugar cubes were used in the design - 514 being the correct answer!

Many thanks must go to our sponsors Siúcra, IKEA, Comfort Keepers and RKD.

Additional support came from Alpack, Celtic Chocolates, Summerhill, Anne and Tom O'Reilly, Dunnes Butchers, Donnybrook, The Village Butchers, The Natural Bakery and SuperValu, Ranelagh.

The planning for 2016 has already begun with many involved this year already signed up and new recruits already in line!

Enjoy the display for yourselves and maybe join us next year for the fun and magical moments.
