Lots to learn and enjoy on Third Age’s free digital skills course

Posted on 6th April 2017

Third Age is meeting many new people through our free Getting Citizens Online course. One is Anne Fallon from Readstown, Co Meath. We spoke to Anne just as she had completed one of our very first ‘Getting Citizens Online’ course, which took place in Summerhill during February and March 2017.

"I would highly recommend the course to anyone. Not only do you learn new things and cover the basics of using the internet, there is also a great social aspect to it. It was great to meet new people and we had a good laugh too. I've really enjoyed every part of it and look forward to seeing another course running in the future so I can keep learning."

Anne explained how vital it is nowadays to have some knowledge of using a computer no matter your age, “I had very little knowledge when starting this course. I had seen it advertised in the Mass leaflet locally and when it said would you like to learn some basic skills about your computer and the internet,  I just thought, ‘now that course is for me’. We all have our own story why we joined the course and I can definitely say we all got something out of it. I lost my husband recently and it was only then I realised I had no real knowledge of the computer and the internet. He did all that for me. Two of my children live abroad, one in Kent and one in Manchester and again this was another reason I wanted to learn more so I could communicate with them and keep in touch."

In asking Anne if she would recommend the course to others, she had no hesitations in speaking about all she has gained from her five weeks in Third Age Headquarters, "I would highly recommend the course to anyone. Not only do you learn new things and cover the basics of using the internet, there is also a great social aspect to it. It was great to meet new people and we had a good laugh too. I've really enjoyed every part of it and look forward to seeing another course running in the future so I can keep learning."
